Overview of Services

X-ray irradiators for cells: Two CIX2 X-ray cabinets from Xstrahl have been acquired. One is localised at Campus Solna and one at Campus Flemingsberg. They are 220kV self-contained cabinet irradiators. The primary use of the cell irradiators is to irradiate cultured cells suspended in cell culture medium in 15 ml and/or 50 ml centrifugation tubes or growing in tissue culture vessels as a mono-layer in sizes up to 175 square-centimeter cell culture bottles or different type of multi-well plates i.e. 6-well up to 384-well plates.
X-ray irradiators for small animals: Two CIX3 X-ray cabinets from Xstrahl have been acquired and are available at KM-A and KM-B. They are 320kV self-contained cabinet irradiators. The cabinets can be used for whole body irradiation (KM-A, KM-B) or focal irradiation (KM-B only).

Xstrahl’s CIX Series cabinet irradiators are free-standing, self-contained X-ray irradiators, designed to facilitate the safe and accurate irradiation of biological samples within a standard laboratory environment. Fulfilling the requirements of in vitro and in vivo biological research, the CIX2 and CIX3 are 220kV and 300kV respectively self-contained cabinet irradiators incorporating the irradiation chamber and system electronics in one enclosure. The intuitive and easy to use software interface allows for multiple user logins, whilst X-Ray exposures can be programmed and executed automatically. In addition to removing the health and safety burden associated with the use of radioactive sources, the Xstrahl CIX2/3 provide a simpler, safer and lower cost alternative to radioisotope irradiators. Training and user fee?
A training and user fee will be applied for using the X-ray irradiators.

Education mandatory before access to equipment?
Yes. It is a legal requirement that you have attended one course on "Introduction to radiation protection" prior to start using the X-ray irradiators and also a web course focused on the “Xstrahl X-ray irradiators”. In addition, you need to attend an onsite introduction to the irradiators.
You should have participated in the "Introduction to radiation protection" course/session no longer than five years ago. Please provide a certificate when contacting the experts for access. If your certificate is older than five years or if you have not participated in such a course previously, you must register for one. See further details for registration below.
If you have attended an equivalent course, you need to provide a certificate and sign up for an onsite introduction to get access to the X-ray irradiator. See contact details below.
