Karolinska Center for Transgene Technologies (KCTT)

Our Offer - Overview of Services

Karolinska Center for Transgene Technologies (KCTT) is the mouse transgenic core facility at Karolinska Institutet (KI).

KCTT was established year 2000 and is hosted by Comparative Medicine at KI Campus Solna.

Our mission is to provide services in mouse transgenic and related technologies primarily to researchers at KI, but we also welcome external customers as far as our capacity allows.

We collaborate with the Import Portal at KM-Wallenberg for reception and housing of the mice that are scheduled for our rederivation and/or cryopreservation services and with Karolinska Genome Engineering regarding the design of CRISPR/Cas strategies for mouse model creation.

Main services:

  • Production of genetically modified mouse (GMM) strains by using:
    - Pronuclear mouse zygote microinjection of DNA constructs
    - Targeted mutagenesis in mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs)
    - CRISPR/Cas technologies in mouse embryos and ESCs
  • Derivation of mESC lines from established GMM strains
  • Rederivation and cleansing of GMM strains from fresh or frozen embryos and sperm
  • Cryopreservation of GMM strains as embryos or sperm
